**Work Shift:** Please see job description for details. **Time Type:** Full time **Department:** CC013190 Surgery **Summary:** Full Time, 11a-9p, 4/10 hour shifts a week, variable day off (minimal call required) A Surgical Technologist I under the direction of the surgeon and RN, assists in the preparation, set-up, and completion of the surgical procedure. They maintain strict adherence to the principles of sterile technique and continually monitor the sterile field to ensure its integrity. The Surgical Technologist I provides safe and effective care for the patients in surgery and commonly participates in procedures for patients from newborn to adult with conditions requiring surgical intervention. **Additional Information:** **Required Education:** Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college program or technical school or nursing diploma **Recommended Education:** Surgical Technology Certificate from College Program or Technical School **Required Work Experience:** **Recommended Work Experience:** Related Field - No experience required **Required Certifications:** **Recommended Certifications:** Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting **Description** 1. Assists with the preparation of the operating room by ensuring the availability of appropriate instrumentation, supplies, and equipment for assigned cases in all services. 2. Performs surgical counts with RN prior to the procedure. 3. Participates in ensuring that the majority of the sterile field has been set-up prior to the transfer of the patient into the operating room. 4. Anticipates the instrumentation needs for the upcoming and to-follow cases aiding in case turnover time. 5. Uses knowledge of sterile techniques to gown and glove surgeons, assistants and self, passing instruments, and draping sterile field and maintaining sterile field throughout the procedure. 6. Maintains sponges, blades, needles, and instruments in an orderly fashion and actively counts at appropriate times and responds promptly to request by the RN or surgeon to count. 7. Communicates with team in regard to changes in surgeon's preferences and to the RN on implants, medications, and surgical specimens. 8. At the close of the procedure, assists the RN with final surgical counts and breaking down of the sterile field ensuring the appropriate disposal of sharps. 9. Cleans, prepares, and transports instruments for terminal sterilization. Assists with instrument reprocessing tasks and inspects instruments for damage or repair needs reportling promptly to the Service Leader and/or the SPD Supervisor. 10. Assists other team members with cleaning and room turnover ensuring the operating room is ready for the following case. Ensures unused supplies and equipment have been returned to storage areas and room supplies restocked. 11. Promotes safety and promptly reports any safety concerns to the RN or Team Leader. 12. Performs other duties as assigned.
