Salary: $45,760 - $53,560 (Negotiable DOE&E)

Status: Non-Exempt, 90-day probation period

JOB SUMMARY: The Domestic Violence Advocate is responsible for providing direct services to victims of domestic violence. Central to the Advocate’s work is to provide comprehensive and dynamic safety planning, and provide trauma informed/ historical trauma informed advocacy that is culturally appropriate.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum of an associate degree in human services, criminal justice, or related fields.
  • Must have experience working with individuals who have been involved in domestic violence victims with at least two professional references listed on the resume.

  • Must have knowledge and experience with inter-tribal Native American values, beliefs, and traditions.
  • Must have Native American cultural knowledge of traditional healing practices and know the community and the challenges that the Native American population faces on and off reservations.
  • Ability to demonstrate their understanding of the various domestic violence and the challenges a Native American and all other victims may face.
  • Ability to demonstrate their experience in providing care coordination services for housing and other basic needs.
  • Ability to demonstrate their experience in providing domestic violence including crisis responses, establishing protection orders, and the importance of the safety and confidentiality of victims.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to work with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

  • Must have an understanding or an ability to learn about the systems of care in North Dakota, i.e., criminal justice systems, social service and domestic violence/sexual assault advocacy programs and other social justice organizations.
  • Must possess strong writing and verbal skills.
  • Will be motivated, self-directed, organized with attention to detail, and have good problem-solving skills.
  • Must have a valid driver license.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must have computer and Microsoft software skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of various resources and services in the Bismarck-Mandan community.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of applied science degree in human services or criminal justice or another related field.

Job Duties:

  • Respond to crisis calls involving domestic violence and coordinate services including shelter.
  • Work directly with victims by providing support, advocacy, referrals, and the coordination of services internally and externally.
  • Work with first responders to domestic violence and sexual assault (police, emergency room, etc.) in providing support and information while ensuring that victims receive respectful and appropriate services.
  • Assist with developing, coordinating and conducting outreach and community education.
  • Coordinate and host domestic violence, sexual assault and MMIW community events and activities for DV victims and survivors.
  • Coordinate and host cultural community events and activities for DV victims and survivors.
  • Assist with coordinating community stakeholder meetings on a quarterly basis.
  • Network with and make referrals to other agencies that could assist the victims.
  • Responsible for tracking data related to services provided, the numbers served and collecting/classifying other relevant data and statistics.
  • Actively consider ’s vision and values in all aspects of work.
  • Develop and update Domestic violence policies and procedures.
  • Conduct all activities in a manner that reflects ’s organizational mission.
  • Participate in all other duties/activities as required by management.
