SUMMARY

Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers to staff the Sexual Assault (SA) Services 24 Hour Hotline and the Domestic Violence (DV) 24 hours Hotline. Provide medical advocacy, civil, general, and criminal justice advocacy services to survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Recruit members of the community to staff the Sexual Assault (SA) and Domestic Violence 24 Hour Hotline on a volunteer basis. Coordinate and implement both the 60-hour DVSA training mandated by Illinois' governing body of SA programs, the Illinois Coalition against Sexual Assault (ICASA) and the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV).
• Facilitate at least four 60 hour combined DV/SA professional training annually, which conform to the standards set by the state of Illinois via The Illinois Coalition against Sexual Assault (ICASA) and Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV).
• Recruit 30 new hotline volunteers annually for the DVSA program and maintain at least 15 active hotline volunteers in each program each year.
• Provide follow-up to hotline callers within 48 hour of callers' initial contact with Hotline.
• Provide on-call response to the Hotline, during the workday with other DV/SA advocates.
• Document and maintain information regarding volunteer activities and services delivery.
• Develop and implement a plan to recruit, train and coordinate new volunteers to staff the DVSA Hotline and provide ongoing volunteer training, quarterly (4) volunteer in-services per fiscal year and coordinate volunteer appreciation efforts; as well as ways to work with volunteers that are noncompliant with program and/or agency requirements; inappropriate with or unresponsive to Hotline callers.
• Design and carry out annual volunteer appreciation events to acknowledge the valuable contributions of volunteers to the DVSA Program.
• Assist Supervisor(s) in maintaining active networking agreements with medical and criminal justice agencies.
• Provide crisis intervention to sexual assault and domestic violence survivors and their significant others.
• Provide individual medical, criminal justice, civil and general advocacy with sexual assault/abuse and domestic violence survivors and their significant others.
• Provide information and referral services to clients.
• Document all individual advocacy and crisis intervention activities in designated clients' files.
• Create training outlines, content, and curriculum to meet program and audience needs.
• Coordinate and/or conduct training to medical and criminal justice professionals and community partners on issues related to working with sexual assault and domestic violence survivors.
• Provide institutional advocacy with law enforcement, medical, criminal justice, and community/civic/faith -based organizations.
• Facilitate community mobilization and coalition building with survivors and within colleges/universities where the DVSA program maintains memoranda of understanding (MOU).
• Participate in program outreach activities and SAAM, DVAM, and relevant awareness month events.
• Ppepare for data entry on a weekly basis, documentation of all individual advocacy, institutional advocacy, information and referral (I & R) and professional training activities provided to and/or on behalf of sexual assault survivors and significant others.
• Other duties as assigned.

VOLUNTEER OPERATIONS RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide on-going support and oversight of volunteers. Keep volunteers informed of policies, procedures and standards of volunteer service. Offer volunteers training and education on matters related to working with sexual assault victims, on a quarterly basis.
• Document telephone and in-person contact with volunteers to be kept in individual volunteers' files.
• Responsible for receiving, documenting, and submitting for data entry and case record maintenance, volunteers' direct service reports regarding their telephone and in-person interactions with Hotline callers.
• Participate in designated staff meetings with Supervisor of DV/SA Advocacy (weekly); with all DVSA Program staffs (monthly). Submit Hotline activity report to Supervisor of DVSA Advocacy monthly.
• The Volunteer(s) and/or Casual Medical Advocates on call are scheduled to respond to Hotline calls. If the volunteer does not respond, the member of the DVSA staff who is scheduled as backup for that day will be contacted. If the scheduled DVSA staff does not respond, the Coordinator of DVSA Training & Volunteer Operations will be contacted to respond.

The Coordinator of DVSA Training & Volunteer Operations is also to be available when either the volunteer or the scheduled SA/DV staff person requests help with a Hotline call. Whenever the Coordinator of SA/DV Training & Volunteer Operations is not available due to illness, holiday, or vacation, or at any other times as approved by the Supervisor, the Supervisor of Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Advocacy will respond to calls and provide assistance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelors degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Human Services, Gender/Women's Studies, or another related field required.

IL 60-hour training in both Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Training preferred. ICDVP Certification required. Eligibility will be considered if certification can be obtained within 3-6 months of starting in the position.

Candidate must have at least two (2) years of experience working with trauma survivors in which crisis intervention was provided. Prior program coordination experience is needed. Experience managing volunteers is preferred. Training facilitation and presentation experience required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Valid Illinois driver's license and automobile insurance. Personal vehicle needed for transportation to/from: Pillars Community Health's (PCH) office sites, police departments, courthouses, and hospitals within the program's service area. Mileage for authorized work-related purposes is reimbursable.

PAY & BENEFIT INFORMATION

$22.20 per hour to $29.55 per hour
